The Board of Education will meet at 8:15 pm on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in the Pelham Middle School Library, 28 Franklin Place, Pelham, NY 10803. Prior to the public meeting, the Board is expected to meet at 7:00 pm and immediately enter into executive session in the Superintendent's Conference room at 18 Franklin Place, Pelham, NY 10803.
At the regular business portion of the meeting, KG&D Architects will provide an update on bond implementation, including the addition to Prospect Hill, renovations to the high school/middle school, athletic fields, and environmental/sustainability at the new Hutchinson School. The Board will also conduct a work session on Pillar IV of the Strategic Plan: “Building a professional culture of learning, effective feedback and growth, for every employee, inspiring a standard of excellence for all.”
In addition to Dr. Champ's Superintendent's report, the agenda may include updates from each School Board committee, as well as reports on 21st Century Learning and Professional Development, Networks of Support and Social-Emotional Development, and Finances and Facilities.

The Board of Education's Bond Steering Committee will meet at 8:30 am on Friday, Oct. 19 in the library of Pelham Memorial High School, room 105E at 575 Colonial Avenue, Pelham, NY 10803.
Congratulations to Dr. Steven Garcia, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Personnel who was recently named the recipient of the National Network for Early Language Learning Award for Outstanding Support of Early Second Language Learning. The Pelham Board of Education approved a resolution advocating for fair treatment of contributions in support of public education under IRS regulations while also joining a consortium of other school districts and municipalities sharing that opinion. Read more.
Representatives from KG&D, the District's architectural firm, presented the schematic designs of the new Hutchinson School to the Board of Education on Sept. 25. This presentation reflects approximately 30 percent of the overall design and the architects, as well as Triton Construction, which is serving as the District's construction management firm, will continue to provide the Board and community updates as the plans become more detailed. Elementary School parents are invited to attend one of two Pelham Public Schools Parent Math/Literacy Nights on Thursday, October 11 (Gr. K-2) at Siwanoy School and Thursday, October 18 (Gr. 3-5) at Colonial School. Each event will run from 7-8:15 pm. Please read more about these events or view the flyer for more information.
The Board of Education recently sent a letter to the New York State Department of Transportation and elected officials opposing the proposed site of a telecommunications tower across the street from Ingalls Field. Please read the letter for more information.
Please be advised that the Pelham Union Free School District has been granted a waiver for temporary employment Susan E. Lockhart as Interim Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services under Section 211 of Retirement and Social Security Law and section 80-5.5 of Commissioner's Regulations from June 28, 2018 to December 31, 2018. Mrs. Lockhart will be paid on a per diem basis during her employment with the District and will continue to receive her New York State pension during this time.
Architect Russell Davidson of KG&D provided the Pelham Board of Education with an update on the schematic design of the planned new Hutchinson School that was approved in the 2018 capital improvement bond.
The community is also invited to a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 pm in the Hutchinson School gym at which Mr. Davidson will share information on the design and status of the new school, as well as the other projects included in the bond.
